DAY 186 - COUNTING DOWN TO THE 50TH

Good Morning, Class of 1964
At 27°, snow is falling, and yesterday's rainy melt down has flooded a local road. Seven inches, or more, now covers the ground. Additional white fluff flits and floats about as the morning passes. 
A call comes in that garbage trucks won't be running tomorrow - another good reason for recycling and composting all the refuse of daily living. 
What's called
for, here, is puttering about in the kitchen with the soup pot, and any leftovers that could be hanging out in the fridge. Hmmmm, did somebody think to get the bread and milk?

Would the class of '64 have eaten leftovers in those years at home with family? Since we were young and growing, there might not have been much left at the end of a meal. If your family was a large one you might have competed for the favored vittles that were left on the table after Sunday supper - the last chicken leg or dollop of mashed potato. Mother might not have had to concern herself with storing and using leftovers. But, memory has brought to mind warmed over vegetable soup with its tasty, thicker broth. The second time around could be very good, if it happened to be vegetable soup.

Scrap Soup
 Put leftovers to use by making Scrap Soup. Place a container in the freezer, and add food scraps until it's full. (Make it yummier with broths, seasonings, cheeses, or sour cream.)
