The Month of June
Flowers and Bird's Nest - Oliver Clare
The morning sky is a nickel gray.
Spots of dark wetness dot
the porch rail and pavers
where raindrops fell.
A chill sweeps lightly
over the early air
but not enough for shivers.
A granddaughter sleeps quietly
in her brand new bed.
In the crock-pot a roast
spreads the rich scent of beef.
The birds are strangely silent,
not even a twitter.
...the beginning of an early
June day in the mountains.

In our lifetime many Junes
have come and gone -
almost seventy of them.
How often did we notice the
warmth of those days
and the coolness of the nights?
The peonies and Iris were
as beautiful then as now.
Did we notice?
If we could magically wish them back,
almost seventy years of Junes,
we would devour each June moment.
Thirty days quickly become yesterday.
Flowers and Bird's Nest - George Clare

June is bustin' out all over
All over the meadow and the hill!
Buds're bustin' outa bushes
And the rompin' river pushes
Ev'ry little wheel that wheels beside the mill!

June is bustin' out all over
The feelin' is gettin' so intense,
That the young Virginia creepers
Hev been huggin' the bejeepers
Outa all the mornin' glories on the fence!
Because it's June...
June, June, June
Just because it's June, June, June!

Blue Eggs in Nest - Frank Wilson
 "Mine is the Month of Roses; yes, and mine
The Month of Marriages! All pleasant sights
And scents, the fragrance of the blossoming vine,
The foliage of the valleys and the heights.
Mine are the longest days, the loveliest nights;
The mower's scythe makes music to my ear;
I am the mother of all dear delights;
I am the fairest daughter of the year."
  Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
