DAY 43 - COUNTING DOWN TO THE 50TH

Good Morning, Class of '64
Rugged Beauty - Richard B. Tiberius - http://www.tiberiusart.com/rugged-beauty%E2%80%94chicory/

Out and About Where the Chicory Blooms

On roadsides along the way the chicory blooms:
An unkempt (or was it planned?)
 median strip blooms chicory full.
Lovely, but, too soon!

Standing tall and blue in wasted places,
Chicory embraces the warmth of June,
and slips away with autumn's chill.
And that's the thorn!
A reminder that sun filled days will end
and the length of light will lessen, now.
Till the end, the chicory looms
And reminds us with it's blue.

The Chicory was with us through our summer days and took us back to school - we probably never noticed. That "blue flower" was probably often seen, but never given a name. Chicory brewed coffee we might have known about but didn't associate with that tall "blue flower". Ancestors might have used it for home remedies, but we had grown far beyond that time.

You're running down our clock
 And making us take stock
Of the world we did or didn't rock

"Deep Purple" was published in 1933 as a piano

It was number one on the US pop charts in
November 1963 and also won that year's
Grammy Award for Best Rock and Roll Record.
It remained in the Top 40 for twelve weeks.

Nino Tempo and April Stevens - 1963
When the deep purple falls
over sleepy garden walls
And the stars begin to twinkle
in the sky—
In the mist of a memory
you wander back to me
Breathing my name with a sigh...
Queen Anne's Lace and Chicory - Johanna Engels
Chicory
Chicory is a wild plant on roadsides in its native
