DAY 30 - COUNTING DOWN TO THE 50TH

Good Morning, Class of '64
Simple Pleasures - Hanne Lore Koehler
A morning-glory at my window satisfies
me more than the metaphysics of books.
Walt Whitman

I never in my life argued with a piece
of cake or a bowl of ice cream.
 Ray Bradbury

 Manifest plainness, embrace simplicity,
reduce selfishness, have few desires.

Simple Pleasures - Don Hatfield
Four out-and-about days in a row has drained the car of gasoline, the purse of most of its money and the body of energy. The car tank will be filled in a short time, the purse will be replenished - eventually, but what happened to the stamina of youth? The energy that lasted forever in those young years departs quickly in the malls of today. And the legs and feet just hate the concrete that is so common everywhere - both inside and outside the stores.

Those red shoes, which were the purpose of at least one of the excursions, have yet to be found. Not red, red, red shoes: scarlet red, strawberry red, cherry red - not those reds! More of an oxblood red but maybe less formal? Do they even make comfortable oxblood shoes anymore? Forget the internet. Depending on the shoe it has to be wide or not wide, this size or that size - yes, it's a big foot!

Song of Solomon
King James Version (KJV)
7 How beautiful are thy feet with shoes,
O prince's daughter!

"I sing God's music because it makes me feel free",
Jackson once said about her choice of gospel, adding,
"It gives me hope. With the blues, when you finish,
you still have the blues." She was referred to as
"The Queen of Gospel".
She recorded about 30 albums during her career,
and her records included a dozen million-sellers.
The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences
created the Gospel Music or Other Religious Recording
category for Jackson, making her the first gospel

Getting sidetracked into the Junior department adds wear and tear to the body and feet, and it lengthens the time spent in the stores. How could you not just wander through, though, when the department is so strategically located near the front of some of the stores? So, Little Gal makes out when Grandma goes shopping.

Shopping for a ten year old is tricky business, if it's been a long time since you were a ten year old yourself. "I have my own style now, Grandma." "Style"? When I was ten I was probably still running barefoot through the neighborhood. That must have been my style. Anyway, anything "neon" might work, anything a bit tattered (but not too) might work or anything with a scarf or a scarf itself would be good. Is ten the new twelve?

 Chantilly Lace
The song reached #6 on the pop charts and
spent 22 weeks on the national Top 40.
It was the third most played song of 1958.
Jiles Perry "J. P." Richardson, Jr.
was known as The Big Bopper.
He died in a plane crash in Iowa,
along with Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens,

Coming home after a big shopping day is so wonderful! Take off the shoes, get out of the confining clothes into something loosey goosey, and look through the bags of goodies before putting them away. (Isn't that fun!) Watch the hummingbirds come and go at the feeder. Enjoy the flowers blooming on the porch. Get that cold drink you've been wanting but didn't take the time because you didn't want to take the time. Then, plop down into the easy chair. None of these things has cost you much of anything, either.
